Bow Making Course
Spend the weekend in the woods splitting, cleaving, and carving your very own flat bow from locally sourced Ash from our woodland. During the weekend you will learn how to make a bow from a piece of timber and gradually carve it down to the desired bow shape before testing how well it shoots on the final day.
Fire Lighting Day CourseNew for 2018
Delve deeper in the skills and techniques of lighting a fire. During this day course you will light a whole range of fires using a number of methods from primitive through to modern. You will learn how to firstly source tinder, prepare it and use it in the most effective manor to create a roaring fire in no time. You will learn and light fires using matches, flint and steel, ferrocerium rods, chemical reactions and the sun.
Flint Knapping course
During this course our primitive skills instructor will teach your how to create primitive tools such as axe heads, knife blades, arrowheads, and hide scrapers from nodules of flint. Everything you make during this course you’ll take home with you at the end.
Kuksa carving courseNew for 2018
The kuksa carving day is just that, a crafty day learning how to carve with green wood to create your very own Kuksa. The name kuksa derives from the Scandinavian word meaning drinking vessel or cup and is traditionally carved from birch wood by the Sami people of the north.
Remote Emergency Care Level 3 – Wilderness Outdoor First Aid Course
Wilderness First Aid course Level 3. A 16hr first aid training course where you will gain a nationally recognised qualification. This course fulfils the requirements for mountain leader training (ML) and BCU amongst others.
Spoon carving course
During our spoon carving course you’ll be guided through how to carve a spoon from green wood. There will be a variety of wood to choose from including birch, sycamore and ash. The day will be spent carving under the woodland canopy where you’ll truly be in touch with nature. By the end of the course you’ll walk away with at least one spoon that you’ve carved yourself
The Whole Deer
The Whole Deer – A hands on butchery course dedicated to the butchery of an entire deer. You will be getting stuck in to every process throughout this day course covering how to firstly skin a large mammal such as a deer, you’ll then be taken through how to remove the various joints of meat making steaks from the fillets, roasting joints from haunches as well as making marinades to infuse the tasty venison in. Your woodland lunch will be… venison, cooked over the embers of a camp fire. At the end of this course you will leave with a cool box full of venison and recipes of tasty venison meals.
Wild Game Butchery
Wild game such as venison, rabbit and pigeon are becoming increasing popular and this course is designed with that in mind. You’ll get hands on with the butchery of large and small game as well as wild fowl.
By the end of the day, you will walk away with a selection of the meats you’ve prepared during the day. This will include a minimum of 1/4 of a deer, pigeons and rabbits
Woodsman Craft WeekNew for 2018
Spend the week in the woods weaving, carving and crafting utensils, cups and containers from natural materials. Each day you will be introduced to a new craft and gather the raw materials needed to make the craft item. Our expert instructors will take you through how to use the various woodsman tools such as axes, draw knives, gouges and carving knives that make crafting these items possible.
