Our Woodland Survival course is designed to teach you some basic survival skills, this course is slightly more advanced than our Insight into Bushcraft course. The survival skills covered in this course include fire light, improvised / natural shelters, tree and plant identification and wild game preparation.

During the course of the day you will be learning about improvised /natural shelters, we will be looking at various types of shelters used in survival situations and you will get a chance to construct a leaf litter shelter of your own. It’s then onto game preparation, where you will be given a pigeon and be shown how to prepare it ready for cooking.

After lunch we will be going on a nature walk through the woodland where we will be identifying various trees and plants and looking at how some of them  can be used in a survival situation. We will then head down to the stream, to go through the process of water collection. We will talk you through the various methods of collecting water and how to filter and purify it making it safe to drink. Once back at camp we will then go through the basic principles of fire lighting, where you will get a chance to light a fire using the bow drill method.

Over the course of the day you will learn:

• How to light a fire (without matches)
• Construct a weatherproof shelter
• How to locate water
• How to identify useful trees and plants for food
• How to identify useful trees and plants for medicine
• How to prepare game ready for cooking
• Some bushcraft cooking techniques
• Knife and Saw safety
• Knife and Saw cutting techniques

This course is fully catered.
