Wild Food Forage - Identification techniquesHeading out and harvesting wild plants for food is very rewarding. You will spend the day learning how to identify wild edibles from the woodland, hedgerow and pastures. You will find that our British countryside offers a wealth of seasonal wild foods providing you know when and where to look. Not only will you learn how to identify wild plants, you will learn how harvest, cook and taste first hand what nature has to offer.

We will take you through our woodland, down our hedgerow and across our pastures discovering edible greens, roots, flowers, fungi alongside nuts and berries.Wild Food Forage - Beef Steak Fungus

You will harvest a selection of ingredients and cook them up with some seasonal wild game for your woodland lunch.

Over the course of the day you will learn:-

  • Identification techniques and plant lore
  • Identification of wild plants and tree species for food
  • Game preparation and cooking
  • Identification of dangerous plants
  • Their other uses for fire lighting, cordage, etc
  • Knife safety

Catering

All meals for this course will be provided, allowing each student the opportunity to do some bushcraft cooking over an open fire. We have a kettle always on the go so you can help yourself to tea, coffee, squash and biscuits. We also have fresh drinking water and a fruit bowl available.

Timings

This course starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm.

    A steady day learning with Adam leading the walk through the woods Identifying edible plants for lunch. Good time had by all.
