Bark Containers and Baskets Day Course
During this course you will be guided through how to manipulate bark to make various bark containers, pots and baskets.
The course starts with an initial safety briefing, where our instructors will demonstrate and guide you through how to safely handle and use the various tools you’ll be using throughout the course. You begin the first day with bark containers, the aim is to make a couple of containers / baskets throughout the day. You will first learn how to select the correct bark to use. Our instructors will then demonstrate and guide you through how to remove bark from a harvested log, its then over to you to gather your own piece of bark.
Once you have removed and cleaned your piece of bark, our instructors will show you how to manipulate and shape it allowing you to form different types of containers. You’ll first need to design your containers, thinking about size, shape and what the end use will be. Once you have your design, our instructors will talk you through the natural materials needed to stitch your containers together. These include roots which you will the harvest.
Having collected all your materials you will be guided through the construction of your containers, including how to carve a base and lid. This is a relaxing session held around the camp fire with plenty of tea on offer.
Over the day you will learn how to:
- Safely use various carving tools and their correct techniques
- Select the correct type of bark before removal
- Harvest bark to gain the maximum piece of material
- Clean the bark removing any problem areas
- Harvest roots and natural bindings
- Carve a base and lid for your containers
- This course is fully catered.

Location: This course is held at our Wiltshire site close Swindon.

All meals for this course will be provided, allowing each student the opportunity to do some bushcraft cooking over an open fire. We have a kettle always on the go so you can help yourself to tea, coffee, squash and biscuits. We also have fresh drinking water and a fruit bowl available.
This course starts at 9am and finishes at 4pm.
Joining instructions will be sent to participants once full payment has been made along with your receipt. This will include details of where to meet, when to meet, and what to bring with you.
